sector, Weather Radars, is one example that represents a successful new area for Vaisala. "Some time ago we looked at the market for weather radar and decided that none of the existing companies were worth acquiring. So, we decided instead to develop the know-how ourselves," Husu recalls. "Our radio frequency design competency was excellent. We eventually added to it by acquiring Sigmet, a US offshoot of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This has led to even more significant developments, including a recent $7 million order from the Federal Aviation Authority for upgrades to signal processors for critical US major airport radars."
